Cognitive processes in neurologic rehabilitation research
Dr. Victor Mark's Behavioral Neurology laboratory at Spain Rehabilitation Center specializes in bedside or laboratory research on cognitive factors in humans that affect daily living activities in recovery from neurological disorders in rehabilitation. Disorders include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or disease, brain tumors, and multiple sclerosis. Areas of interest include aphasia, unilateral spatial neglect, visual perception, executive dysfunction, and motor control, along with cognitive processes in healthy aging. The lab can readily access the 49 hospitalized inpatients at Spain Rehabilitation Center and their family members. Facilities include computers for test administration, video analysis, and brain imaging analyses. Dr. Mark is a Board-Certified Behavioral Neurologist, member of the American Academy of Neurology and the International Neuropsychological Society for the past 30 years, holds joint faculty appointments with the UAB Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, and Psychology, the UAB Vision Science Research Center, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, the Alzheimer Disease Research Center, and the Comprehensive Center for Healthy Aging, and is a member of the Graduate School faculty.
