Primary Breast Cancer Plan for California

This is a 3-year grant to the first-ever, comprehensive breast cancer primary prevention plan for California. With a strong foundation of science and input from many stakeholders, including academics, government regulators, non-profit organizations and impacted communities; we will create a policy agenda to reduce breast cancer risk factors in California. As part of this project, we are scoping the peer-reviewed literature related to 23 factors of potential relevance for breast cancer risk.
This will be the main project (about 80% of their time) interns work on through summer 2019. Activities will include:
·        Finalize scoping reviews, including systematic literature screens, tabulating data from peer-reviewed articles, and organizing data into themes. We have completed 19 of the 23 scoping reviews, and we will complete the rest by the end of 2018.
·        Organize and vet organize recommended interventions gathered from the peer-reviewed literature, from a series of virtual study groups, and from listening sessions across the state.
·        Writing sections of the report in a collaborative setting. We will have a team of 5-7 (including 3-4 BCPP staff and one contractor) collaborating on different aspects of writing, and everyone will read, review and edit everyone else’s work.
2)     Contribute to research on chemicals of concern in personal care, cleaning products, and fragrance.
3)     Write educational blogs, fact sheets, and research briefs for web and social media. These will cover aspects of ingredient disclosure, occupation, and overarching themes in environmental health.
