Immunology Research Opportunity in Alabama for IMGs

Immunology of brain physiology and pathology

A highly motivated undergraduate student is sought to perform research in the Kano lab at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the UAB School of Medicine (www.skano-lab.org). The lab investigates brain immunology and homeostasis in health and disease by using multidisciplinary approaches of neurobiology, immunology, and translational neuroscience.

Current projects include but are not limited to: 1) Molecular communications between astrocytes and microglia during neuroinflammation, 2) Role of peripheral immune system on brain function and behavior, and 3) Developmental regulation of neurocircuitry by glia.

Technically, the lab covers molecular biology, biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, mouse brain histology, and mouse behavioral assays. The student will have plenty of chances to interact directly with Principle Investigator and other laboratory members, and ample opportunities to learn cutting-edge skills and concepts.

Please contact us (sikano@uabmc.edu) with your prior research experiences (or any relevant coursework), your research interests, and an estimate of how much time you can spend in the lab.
